Firewall Problem

I have opened port 1433 on my firewall, but I am still not able to get
remote clients to connect via query analyser, or enterprise manager.
Are there other ports required to be opened ?Have you checked your remote clients to make sure TCP/IP sockets is the
default protocol? You may have to go SQL Client Network Utility or run
through a SQL Server ODBC System DSN (Control Panel | ODBC Data Sources) and
verify that on the user login credential page that the Client Configuration
that it says TCP/IP sockets.
I did look in SQL Server books online in the Network Libraries topic, and
read this
SQL Server uses UDP port 1434 to establish connections from SQL Server 2000
clients. This socket number is also reserved for SQL Server by Internet
Assigned Number Authority (IANA).
You can download SQL Server books online for free from MS

Firewall

We have several clients using one application on their Laptop to connect to Sql Server using either the dial-up or vpn client on their machine. Each client is behind the firewall. The query timeout on the sql server has been set to 0. Six out of 10 cases the application works fine, but when you let some screen open on the client's machine without any activity for may be 5 minutes(the application screen using sql server),come back and try to save the changes made by you and It's giving us the "Connection failure Error".
The same thing is not happeing over the LAN.

Any help in this matter is greatly appriciated. Can you modify the application to support disconnected recordsets and just update the changes as a batch ? Does it timeout on all of the machines outside of the firewall after the 5 minute mark ? Are you using connection pooling ?|||What is generating the error "Connection Failure" ? Is this the exact error message ?|||[DBNETLIB][ConnectionRead (recv()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.|||Are you able to access anything else behind the firewall - or do you lose all network access to the network behind the firewall ?|||Last time we were checking the connection behaviour in the Sql Server 2000 by using the sp_who command line and after some time(may be 6-8 minutes)we realized that there are no active connections between the Client and the Server. We think that the firewall is disconnecting the client with no activity after 10 minutes.Still searching|||We are using the CISCO firewall

FireFox challenge/response

Hi all,
We're having a problem with one of our major clients. We developed a series
of SRS reports that works fine in Internet Explorer. However, when we
navigate to the site using Firefox 1.0, we get prompted to enter a
UserName/Password, which doesn't happen w/ IE. I have tried a lot of
different things to try to get rid of this, but I haven't found a way to do
so. Essentially, we have the Report Users group, which has Browse access to
the reports. All Domain Users are a member of this group. I have even
tried turning on Anonymous access to both the Reports and ReportServer
virtual directories, to no avail - the prompt keeps coming up.
Unfortunately, our client isn't very MS friendly, and we don't have the
ability to control which browser they use ... and at least half the company
is now using FireFox!
Help!!!
Thanks, JimJim wrote:

From my experience the only reason it doesn't happen in IE is because
you've set your RS site as a "Local Intranet" site within the Internet
Settings in Windows. IE then passes the users domain ID/PW
automatically thus bypassing the prompt to login. Firefox/Mozilla can't
do this so you the prompt will always comeup. You can tell your end
users they need to login then click the 'remember password' so they
atleast don't have to type in each time.
Re-reading you posting the above may not really apply, I guess it sounds
like you are linking directly to a report - and that report's datasource
is set to use the users creds for authentication when the report is run?
Same issue as above Firefox can't pass these autmagically like IE -
I'd suggest having the data source use a fixed domain ID/PW.
