Fixing consistency of a MDF file (when detached)

I have a DB that has a torn page error, error 823, and is detached. It
fails when reattaching because of the torn page error. Is there a way to
fix the MDF file when the corresponding DB is not attached to the SQL
server?
Thanks in advance

fixed page size

I have a page body and a page footer in my report. The page body has a table in its data region. It seems, based on the number of rows displayed, the footer section is adjusting itself tobe shown next to thelast row of the table. That is, if I want to show 15 records in a 2 page report, then in the first page there are 10 records and the footer appears after the 10 the record. But in the 2nd page, the footer is appearing immediately after the 5 record, the footer is appearing. the footer moves itself up to do so.
Question: Do do i make sure that the footer appears at the same place in all the reports irrespective of the data shown in the page body.
Thankx in advance.

footer in the same place on each page.
For online-oriented output formats (such as HTML), the footer appears
immediately after the last item on the logical page, so as not to leave a
useless blank space (which would force the user to scroll unnecessarily).

Fix the position of graphs while scrolling

I have a report with a graph on top and a table at the bottom.
Sometimes the table becomes large enough to go to the second page.
The problem is - the graph doesn't show up on the second page.
Is there a way to fix the position of the graphs - so that it stays in
one place as we scroll down...
Without - spoiling the export to pdf... ?You could make the graph repeat on the second page or you could increase the
page length to avoid the break. We are considering adding the ability to
"float" headers in the SQL 2005 release.

Fix Table Size in Report

I have a report that uses a master-detail. The detail is a table. I have content that must be at the bottom of the page in the same place (so that when it prints, it is always on the bottom edge.

The problem I am having is that the whole report size changes depending on how many rows are in the table. For every row that is in the table, it pushes all the content below it down. So, if one record has 2 rows in the detail table, the content below will start at a different point than a record that has 8 rows in teh detail table.

How can I fix the height of the detail table, so that wheather there is 1 or 10 rows, the content below will be in the same spot:

Example:

---TopEdge---- -----TopEdge----
Some Data Some Data Some Data Some Data
SomeMoreData SomeMoreData
Table Header Table Header
Table Row1 Table Row1
Table Row2
Table Row3
Table Row4
Content at Bottom Content at Bottom
Content at Bottom Content at Bottom
---BottomEdge--- ---BottomEdge---

Thanks

I see now that it does.

BTW: Is anyone else having problems with the website: www.gotreportviewer.com?

|||Have you fixed the height of the detail table? If so, please help me.

Thank you.

fitting a report into a single page

hello guys,

i am making a report which views atleast 20 columns..and on the default font size it is being rendered which is in 11 it is impossible to print it in a single page..

i am just wondering if it is possible if during the exporting to pdf, is it possible to fit it in a single page by shrinking its contents into a size that will fit the page..

any help will be highly appreciated..

thanks in advance!

Yes. Simply define your page large enough to contain all of the columns. Then export to PDF and print using 'fit to page' option. Warning, the print may be VERY small, but it will scale and be readable on a high quality printer. Remember to increase the length of your page in ratio with the width.|||

ok ill try that one..so that means there is no way you can do it in the reporting services..it is manually done in the acrobat during printing phase isn't it?

anyway thanks for the reply..it really helps!

Fit Table on one page if possible

has anyone had any luck with the table property option 'Fit Table on one page if possible'. Reporting services seems to ignore this. Anyone familiar with issues surrounding this property? RS seems to break the table at will. I am MOST concerned with this issue as it relates to exporting to .pdf. Any ideas or workarounds would be helpful (we are running sp2).

Thanks!

I usually use table with defined width and page size for A4 paper format.
|||Are you talking about the table's width and height properties? For me, this issue is height as that is what is causing the breaking to the next page. My table width is 7.5, and the height varies, but is usually set for 1.275. This of course doesn't truly reflect the height of the table once it's populated with a bunch of rows!|||I think I'm having the same problem as you. The report is fine except when exported to pdf/tiff where the page breaks occur across the middle of the table details. I enabled this property as suggested elsewhere but it didn't seem to have any effect.|||Have you tried putting the table inside a list an then play with the list properties? I use the keep together property and all my tables are on the same page.
|||I had the same problem before. When I exported the report to PDF, the last several columns were separeted onto next page. After lots of testing, I set the width of the report to 8, and keep the width of the table to 7.5, every field can be kept on the same page.|||

Hi ellenf ,

Habe you solved your "Fit Table" Problem?..I am also having this problem.

Is this a microsoft bug? if it is, is this fixed in RS2005?

Thanks in Advance

|||

No, I never did get this to work. I didn't attempt to put my tables into lists, because this report with about 100 tables is already difficult enough to maintain. I haven't played with 2005 yet, so i do not know if it is resolved.

sorry it's taken so long to answer, I haven't checked my threads in a while!

Fit table on one page if possible

Hi
I'm trying to figure out what the purpose of the "Fit table on one page if
possible" option is...
I have a very simple report with two tables (no grouping...)
The first table has about 60 records, taking up ALMOST two pages; the second
has only like 8 records so is very small.
When rendering the report (doesn't matter which format), the second table
starts at the bottom of page 2 (with just the header and one record), and
continues on page 3.
I want the second table to start on page 3.
I tried the "Fit table on one page if possible"-property of the second
table, but this doesn't have any effect.
So: what is the meaning of this property ?
thanks in advanceare you setting the page size correctly in RS?
try setting the page margins to 1cm all round, and then make sure you have
1cm all round clearence in the report itself.
You could also try selecting everything you want on the second page (if you
are willing to have a second page) and setting the 'PageBreakAtStart' option
to 'True'
Hope this helps

margins or anything...
I'm afraid the PageBreakAtStart is not an option... if both tables have only
like 10 records, both tables should appear on the same page.
I would just like to know what this option really does.
"Fit table on one page if possible" - it sounds very nice, but I never saw
it in action.

Fit Report To Page Problem.....

Hi

when i am running the report and trying to export it ( acrobat for example) i get the report on 4 pages.

the report contain 4 small table.

i check the margins / padding and everything else......

don't know what to do, need HELP.......

Thanks........

When you are in the layout mode in report designer, click on Report from the main menu and select "Report Properties". In the Report Properties window click on the layout tab and increase page height and width. This should solve your problem.

Thanks,

When I display the result in PDF or =TIFF, the name of the client appear at the end of the first page and not =in top of the second page.
But I there is enough space in the =second page to display this name.
So why RS don't group the =content in my list?

I don't want to setup "page break =before" because if the user display the result other the web, I prefer to =scroll the page instead-of clicking "page 2"

Thanks.

Jerome.

Fit dataset on one page

Hey guys,
Let's assume I have dataset with two columns (A,B) and it has 100 records.
I'd like to split this dataset on the same page with 25 records in every column. Side by side.

Example:

ColA ColB ColA ColB ColA ColB ColA ColB 25 rec 25 rec 25 rec 25 rec

What should I use and what properties I have to play with?
Thanks.anyone? :))|||Just a quick drop answer:

- I asume regular column format does not work for you because you want balanced columns and RS gives you unbalanced ones.
- I asume you have a static format= always 100 records, always 25 records/column, or alike.

In those circumstances:
- I'll put 4 table regions side by side on the report design area
- Create a sort of paging expression. Based on Chris Hays blog entry (http://blogs.msdn.com/chrishays/archive/2004/07/15/DynamicGrouping.aspx)
- But instead of grouping items, I'll use the expression for filtering contents on each table. So, table data region 1 will filter for those records with "group" value of 1, table 2 for group 2, and so on...

Hope this helps,

how do i control how many records are displayed on the page?. currently I do not see any property and RS just gives me some defaullt number of records on a page.

The problem is, in one case I get 3 records on a page and 2900 pages which I do not want.

Thanks.|||I'm guessing again, because I've not tried this in code, but I think you can follow the same dynamic grouping solution that Chris Hays suggest in their bloeg (see previous link) to have another grouping every 100 records and then adding a page break based on that grouping.

Let me sumarize the solution:

- One list region with grouping each 100 records (expression1) and page break after each group
- Inside the list: 4 table regions, each one holding 25 records filtered according to the block expression2 (now you may want take "page number" in account).

Hope this helps,

However your assumption wasn't right enough. :)) Sorry.
In my situation recordset can be between 0 and 100 records.
I will try to manipulate with "region" tables.|||Hey,

I was still not able to control how many records are shown on a single page? Any ideas if there is a property I can configure to control this?

Thanks.|||Hi cvajre (whatever this means ;-)

No, there is no property to control how many reports are shown on a single page.
Keep in mind that RS is designed to support and handle rich free-form reports in an open number of presentation formats. That way, even the "page" concept is a tricky one.

You can set page breaks on groups (only?), therefore the trick mentioned above for creating groups that fit your expected recordnumber size.

Fit columns on 1 page

I have a report, that shwos 28 columns. Currently, abt 20 columns or so fit on 1 page and the rest move to the other pages. How do I set it, such that ALL The 28 columns fit on 1 page, instead of columns moving over to the other pages.

Pl advise.

Hello Tarana,

Try to increase the page size and interactive size in the report properties.

Hope this helps.

Be aware that increasing your page size can still cause you problems if you then export your report (i.e. to PDF). I personally try to keep my page size as A4, and decrease the page margins if necessary, but this probably won't help you fit 8 more columns in. Did you know that you can get RS to render in landscape mode if you swap the PageSize measurements around? Going to landscape may be all you need.

|||Check the padding size by default it will be 2pt, Try to Decrease the it and check the page margin also if you can Decrease it's size then can adjuest the more column on a report.|||The page is already setup to LANDSCAPE Mode. I will try changing the padding size and check the margins.|||Then reduce the column size there is no or font size otherwise it diffecult to adjust all the column in a one page.|||

Thanks. I adjusted the column size and font size-Made the font size 7. That seemed to work. Thanks.

On a different note, Do you know anything abt drill-down report?

This is issue with drill-down report.

I have created a drill down report. When the report is not drilled down, all

root nodes are collapsed, the spacing is really weird between them. For

example.

+ Node1

+ Node 2

<a bunch of white space>

+ Node3.

I want all the nodes to be one after each other. There must be somewhere to

set this that I am not seeing.

Any ideas?

|||

From the above specification about <a bunch of white space> . I'm not getting why there are white space can you provide me some more detail on that so that i can think over this issue.

Thanks

Manoj Verma.

|||

The white space is because it reserves the space for the collapsed items For eg

+Daily reports

Monthly reports.

See the white space between the Daily reports and Monthly Reports. These 2 really, should be one below the other, shud not have the white space.

Daily reports, under it really has abt 7 reports. The reason white space is there is because , for some reason, it is reserving the space for those 7 reports, it is a collapsed item.

How can I get rid of those white reports.

Thanks for all your help.

FiscalWeekOfQuarter missing

When I build a time dimension, FiscalWeekOfQuarter does not show up. On the following MSDN page it is listed as an attribute.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms175662.aspx#time_dimension_attribute_types

Anyone know how I can add it? Thanks.

Can you describe the steps you took to build the dimension? I just ran through the dimension wizard, building a server-based time dimension and an attribute of type "FiscalWeekOfQuarter" was created by the wizard. I also looked at an existing time dimension I had based on a dimension table and I can select "FiscalWeekOfQuarter" as the Type for an existing dimension attribute...

>|||Hi Pony,
Thank you for your update.
I would like to know how you pagination the report. Do you use any group?
If so, you could add a hidden column and add a textbox which contain a
value of First row of your group.
For example, if you are using the Group "tbl_Group", and your dataset have
a field named "field1". You could use the following expression in the
hidden textbox:
=first(Fields!field1.Value,"tbl_Group")
Then, you could use the expression to control the visibility of the
Rownumber textbox:
=IIf(ReportItems!txt_field1.Value = ReportItems!First_field1.Value
, false,true)
Hope this will be helpful for you. If you have any quesion, please feel
free to let me know.

Thanks for your reply.
Acturally, i need to change the row backgroud color, for example, set odd
rows to blue, other to red, i use the table, but the rows of each page was
not fixed, maybe page 1 is 15, page 2 is 16, but i try to set the first row
to blue in each page.
i don't use any gruop, any suggest ?

Pony Tsui|||Hi Lu,
I got the Demo Report, thanks.
I try the Demo Report, the backgroud color of first row in each page is
blue, other rows is red, but i need alternate background color, and the rows
in each page is not fix number, i can set alternate background color, but i
want the color of first row in each page is fix.
For example:
=iif(RowNumber(Nothing) Mod 2=1, "blue", "red")
page 1(15 Rows)
row 1 blue
row 2 red
row 3 blue
row 4 red
row 5 blue
row 6 red
...........
...........
...........
row 15 blue
page 2(14 Rows)
row 1 red
row 2 blue
row 3 red
row 4 blue
row 5 red
row 6 blue
...........
...........
...........
row 14 red
the background color of first row in page 1 is blue
the background color of first row in page 2 is red
because the rows in each page is not fix in 15 or 14, so the background
color of first row in each page is variation also.
is there any way to solve this problem?
Pony Tsui|||Hello Pony,
Thank you for your reply.
In this case, I suggest you to limit the rows per page to a fixed amount so
that you could use the expression in your post to control the background
color.
To limit the rows per page to a fixed number, you could do the following:
1. Add a details grouping on the table based on a group expression similar
to this:
=Ceiling(RowNumber(Nothing)/20)
2. Make sure to select "page break at end" on the detail group dialog.
Hope this will be helpful!

Firefox(2?) report rendering problems

Hi, recently added a reportviewer control to a page and it rendered
incorrectly in Firefox 2. So we made a custom report control that calls the
reporting services and renders in HTML 4.0 and the formatting is still messed
up. Basically everything is crammed into the left 5% or so of the page so
all of the text is a jumbled mess. Has anyone tried their reports in Firefox
2 and had success? Anyone encountered this same problem? Thanks!
